Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
TERM TWO COMPLETED. WELL DONE EVERYONE
Nine weeks have flown by and what another amazing term of opportunities we have had at WPS. A huge thank you to our staff and families for all your support and hard work in making sure our children have the best possible education.
Our term had so much happening from Jump Jam, to celebrating Language Weeks, to Tiritiri Matangi, to whole school sports days, to teams representing our school at the Manurewa Primary Schools Sports Association events and much, much more.
FAREWELL - it is always hard to say goodbye when staff leave. However, we know that life changes and for two of our beautiful staff they are moving on.
Miss Cheyenne Pritchard has had 10 wonderful years working at our school but she is off to Australia for another adventure with her amazing family. Miss Pritchard, we thank you for your service to our school and community. You will be truly missed.
Mrs Perminder Khatgar is also moving to Australia. We have loved having you as part of our staff for the past few years. We have enjoyed watching you grow in your teaching craft and we will miss you very much. We wish you and your family all the best.
We welcome Mrs Tiulipe Finau who will be taking over Room 19. Mrs Finau has been working here this term already and has got to know our whole school. We look forward to her joining us for the rest of the year. In Week 2 we welcome Manjot Kaur who will be taking over Room 11. Manjot comes with a wealth of experience and we look forward to her joining our staff.
KAPA HAKA & PASIFIKA - I am so proud of all our students who have joined Kapa Haka and Pasifika. At our Matariki celebration assembly I had a tear in my eye watching our beautiful children perform. Earlier on this term, we had our Pasifika group perform for Samoan Language Week and they also brought a tear to my eye. What I love the most about our culture groups is we encourage any child who wants to learn to be in the groups and we have all different cultures in our groups which is so cool to see.
ATTENDANCE - we have worked hard this term on attendance but we still have a lot of work to do. This term we had 69 out of 514 students at school every day this term. A huge congratulations to those students. Next term let’s increase this number by double, or even triple. The winner of our bike for Term 2 is: Joshua Nu'uhiva from Room 14
LATE STUDENTS - the past 2 weeks have seen so many students coming to school late that it is disappointing. School starts at 9am. Parents and caregivers, we need to be better next term. It is disrespectful to come late and leave early, as our teachers work hard to develop learning programmes for your children. So please help us out by getting your child to school on time.
DROP OFF PICK UP ZONE - this is a system we put in place to keep our students safe every day. Many parents are amazing in using it and we thank you. The times it operates is: 8.30 to 9.00am and 3.00 to 3.15pm. This means during that time, please do not park your car in this zone.
HOLIDAY FUN - during the holidays we hope you all have lots of fun with your family and stay safe. Please continue to do lots of reading books, writing stories and maths activities. It is important that our children keep learning over the break, so when they come back we can get back into learning where we left off. Taking them to the library is a great way to get them reading books and also becoming a member.
REPORTING TO PARENTS - on Thursday our Reports went home with our children. Please take some time to read over these together and support your child with their goals they have set for the second half of the year. We have ‘Learning Conversations’ in Term 3, Week 2 so you can come and chat with your child’s teacher about their academic progress and how you can support them in the home.
On behalf of our staff of WPS, have a blessed holiday and we will see you all before 9am ready to rock n roll for a fun filled term three.
