Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
Samoan Language Week - 2025
I had the privilege of attending the opening of Samoan Language week @ Waimahia Intermediate and to take some of our Y6 students. The theme is Ia malu lou sā Folau i lagimā - A well grounded self is a successful self. This was evident in the confidence I witnessed of the Year 8 students who ran the ceremony and were so proud and confident as they spoke and conducted the ava ceremony too. You can see they were definitely successful in how grounded they are in their identity, language and culture.
We are celebrating Samoan Language week next due to the short week this week and half our staff off site at professional development Thursday and Friday. I look forward to our celebrations next week as we give our students the opportunity to lead in their culture, language and identity and show how grounded they are in themselves as they share with their peers.
Please join us for the opening ceremony on Monday at 10am. Our committee have arranged a wonderful week of learning for our students.
ATTENDANCE - this week I received an email from the Ministry of Education to congratulate our school on our Term 2 attendance so far. We are sitting at a very high 80%, so a huge faafetai tele lava to all of you who are working hard to get your children to school every day. Our focus on weekly attendance and our little prizes weekly are really working. Keep it up everyone.
This week’s data:
A huge thank you also to everyone who is working harder to get your children to school on time. We actually start at 8.50am every day with karakia and himene to set us up for a successful day of learning. Let’s keep up the good work team.
Government’s Budget Announcement for Education - it was great to see that Education had some wins in the budget. I am pleased lots are going into ‘Learning Support’ where it is desperately needed. We will now wait to see how it will work from next year onwards.
Short term - there are only 3 weeks left for this term and we still have so many more opportunities we are offering our children. Information will be coming out soon for our Matariki Celebrations.

Speed Limits Have changed
New variable speed limits
If a gate into the school grounds is on a street where a permanent 30km/h is being reversed, a variable 30km/h speed limit will be installed to replace it. This will extend for approximately 150 meters either side of the school gate and apply for a maximum of 40 minutes at the start and end of the school day. At all other times the usual speed limit applies.
Your school has told us the times for the start and end of the school day and the new signs will reflect this.
Variable speed limit signs are either –
Electronic – the 30km/h speed limit applies only when the sign is ON (lit up); or
Static – the 30km/h speed limit applies at the specified times
More information
Detailed information, a map of the changes and a list of roads by suburb is available on the Speed Limit Reversals webpage. Please check the map to see where speed limits are changing around your school.
Information for newsletters or social media posts
Speed Limits are changing on roads near our school.
These changes will happen between 12-19 May 2025.
The Ministry of Transport has approved the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limit 2024. This updated Rule requires Auckland Transport to reverse the permanent 30km per hour speed limits introduced around our school.
Speed limits are changing on around 1,500 Auckland roads. Please keep an eye out for new speed limit signs.
