Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
We have just completed half a term and it has been a busy term. We have now completed all our testing and have a baseline data set to work from. Teachers are now planning accordingly to where children are at and what they need to do to move them up in regards to their achievement.
ATTENDANCE
I wanted to share some important information regarding attendance so far.
We have 509 students and this week our attendance was:
Monday = 444 children present
Tuesday = 457 children present
Wednesday = 424 children present
Thursday = 446 children present
Friday = 440 children present
Congratulations WPS we are doing well with our attendance! Keep it up!
Ministry of Education states the following:
Regular attendance = no more than 5 days off per term.
Irregular attendance = no more than 10 days off per term.
Moderate attendance = no more than 15 days off per term.
Critical attendance = more than 20 days off per term.
Our aim is for our children have no more than 5 days off per term. This will support our children with their learning if they are at school regularly.
We currently have 149 children still in the running for our 100% attendance prize for a brand new bike at the end of the term.
Prize Packs to give out from next week (Week 7) onwards for 100% attendees:
We will be choosing one student per Team, per week, to receive the above prize for 100% attendance at school. We have four Teams: Moana, Papa, Maunga and Rangi - Kristina will contact the lucky families each week to come and collect their prizes from the main office
LATE STUDENTS - school starts at 9.00am. It is important that you get your children to school on time. Our values are respect & honesty and I believe it is respectful to honour our kaupapa. We can also help if you are finding things a bit difficult. Please feel free to pop in and have a talanoa.
SCHOOL UNIFORM - we are a school with a difference and this was a result of Surveying our students a little while ago. Please help us by making sure your child wears the correct uniform on the correct day.
Monday - House t-shirts (the first one is free, and $20 if you need another one - you can purchase from the main office). If your t-shirt is too small for your child, feel free to return it and we can use them for other children.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - school uniform (these can be purchased online).
Friday - clothing of your choice. This gives families time to wash the House t-shirt and the uniform, ready for the next week.
LIFE EDUCATION CARAVAN - a huge thank you to Carleen our Life Education facilitator who has just completed all our sessions with all our classes in the caravan. Our children have loved having Carleen and Harold on site.
FIRST WHOLE SCHOOL SPORTS DAY - a huge thank you to our amazing Weymouth Angels and Counties Manukau Sports for organising a whole school sports day so our teachers were able to have one of their five release days which they receive each term, as part of their Collective Contract. SPCA Gold coin donation - on Friday 14 March our students, families, and staff donated a gold coin to go to the SPCA. Congratulations WPS we fundraised a whopping $452 which will go towards a great cause.
