TEACHER ONLY DAY - Monday 11 November: There will be no school for our students on Monday 11 November. All of our teachers and support staff will be attending a professional development day with two of our Kāhui Ako schools, Waimahia Intermediate, and Clayton Park School. We are fortunate to have two esteemed experts in education speaking to us on this day. Chris Lowman is an educator who has an interest in Māori Medium teaching, bilingualism/biliteracy and language learning. Louise Dempsey is an educator and facilitator who specialises in literacy. She has co-published some key literacy books that we have in our school. We are looking forward to a day of learning together, and collaborating with our Kāhui Ako schools.
SPORTS SPECTACULAR! We’ve had a very sporting couple of weeks here at Weymouth Primary School and we are so fortunate to have opportunities for our children to put their skills into practice and play against other schools.
TOUCH RUGBY: Coach Whaea Dayna and I took a team of senior girls and boys to play in a mixed touch tournament on Tuesday 29 October. Our team played really well against the other teams in our pool which put us in the playoffs. Our touch team placed 4th. Thank you Whaea Dayna for training our team and sharing your skills. Thank you to our whānau that came on the day to support! Congratulations to our touch team!
CM GAMES: We had school teams playing kiwi-tag, volleyball, basketball, kī o rahi, and football over two-three days. A big thank you to our coaches and support team of angels who prepared our teams and supported our teams. A big thank you to our whānau that also came to support and help out! Congratulations to our students who participated in the games. You represented our school with pride, and we are all very proud of you all.

SOFTBALL: Our Year 5 mixed softball team had their tournament on Monday at Mountfort Park. Many of these children were first-timers to the game of softball and had just three weeks to prepare. They attended after school practices and put every effort into giving this new game a go. Thank you to Whaea Emily who helped me out with the training - we really appreciated it! Thank you to the whānau who came and supported us on the day - we loved hearing the encouragement from the sidelines. Our softball team placed 4th overall - congratulations team!
SWIMMING: Our swimming programme has begun and our kids are absolutely loving being in the water! Swimming is part of our physical education programme and it is so important for children to be able to learn the basic skills of keeping safe in and around water. We are blessed to live in a country where we are surrounded by water, and a stream, river, lake, or beach is only a stone-throw away. We encourage all our students to participate in their class swimming programme - bring along their togs, towel and a bag to hold the wet stuff afterwards. Any questions regarding swimming, please talk to the class teacher.
Have a wonderful weekend everybody. Stay safe and we’ll see you all on Tuesday 12 November.
