FIJI LANGUAGE WEEK: Bula vinaka! Although Fiji Language Week was officially held in the school holidays, we wanted to acknowledge and celebrate it as a school, and so this week we celebrated Fiji Language Week. Our classes got to learn about the country, its culture and language. We are blessed to have many of our staff and students who descend from Fiji and were our experts during this learning. Thank you to the families who also supported learning during this week. We are blessed to be living in a very diverse country, and a very diverse school with teachers and students who come from all over the world.
ROTOROA ISLAND TRIP FOR YEAR 6 STUDENTS: Thank you to the families that attended an important information meeting for this upcoming trip. If you have any further questions, please talk to the classroom teacher. All permission slips must be returned to the class teacher as soon as possible.
NATIONAL SHAKE OUT DAY: On Thursday 24 October we participated in the National ShakeOut Day. It was fabulous to see that our students could demonstrate what to do should there be an earthquake while at school. A reminder that in the case of an emergency, updates will be made on our school website. Do you know what to do as a family if this unfortunate event happens? As a family, you may want to use this time to discuss what safe practices would look like at home. You can access resources from the Get Ready website. Get Ready. Be prepared.
NEW ENTRANT ENROLMENTS: Do you have a child who will be starting school in Term 1 of next year? If so, you can pick up an enrolment pack from the school office and start the enrolment process now. Do you have a child who turns 5 in December? If so, you may complete the enrolment forms and have these processed, and your child will be able to start school in 2025. For any enrolment information or questions, please contact the school office.
SWIMMING: Our school pool will be open as of next week for class swimming. Each class has been allocated a 30-minute timeslot to carry out water skills and water confidence lessons. Swimming is part of our Physical Education Programme and all children are encouraged to participate. Please send your child to school on their swimming day with their swimming togs, towel and a bag to keep their wet clothing in.
SPORTS TRAININGS: With summer sports well underway, so are our trainings in preparation for the tournaments ahead. Thank you to the children and coaches who have committed themselves to these teams. We are excited for our students to be participating in:
MPSSA Touch Rugby Tuesday 29th October- MPSSA Softball Monday 4 November
- CM Games: 5-7th November
SAFETY AT THE GATE: Thank you to our whānau who use our pick-up and drop-off area outside our front gate correctly. When approaching our pick-up and drop-off zone, the best entry is coming from Estuary Road into Evans Road, rather than trying to u-turn in front of other cars into this zone. If you are coming from Blanes Road and dropping your child off on the opposite side of the school, please cross them away from the pick-up and drop-off zone as cars are coming and going in this zone all the time and it isn’t safe for children walking through it.
LABOUR WEEKEND - No school on Monday 28 October: Enjoy the long weekend with your family. Take care and be safe. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 29 October.
