PRINCIPAL'S TALANOA
Moana Iese
Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
Farewell to Ms Clark
On Friday we farewelled the teacher of Room 10, Ms Louisa Clark. Ms Clark started at Weymouth Primary School in 2017 and has had varying roles during this time. Ms Clark was a mentor teacher for beginning teachers, trained as a reading recovery teacher, and also oversaw our Travelwise portfolio for a few years. Ms Clark leaves us to teach in a satellite class at Howick College, supporting students with additional needs. We wish Ms Clark and her whānau all the very best. We have advertised for a replacement teacher, and hope we can appoint one to start in Term 3. In the meantime, we will have our release & relieving teachers supporting Room 10 for the last two weeks of the term.
Education Review Office Visit
Last week we welcomed a Review Officer, Carol Bashford, from the Education Review Office to do a scheduled review. Our last review was in 2018. Carol spent some time prior to her visit reviewing many of our key school documents, and then spent two days with us at school, reviewing all our systems, processes, and teaching and learning that happens at Weymouth Primary School. During this time, Carol observed in classes across the school, interviewed a group of students, and held discussion meetings with our Presiding Board member, our leadership team, and other staff members. We look forward to the final report due next term.
Cross Country
Thank you to all the whānau that came to support your children with this event on Friday. Our children have been practicing over the past few weeks and certainly put a lot of effort into their training. A big thank you to Mrs Johnson for the organisation of our Cross Country and to the many hands that went into supporting the set-up, pack-down and marshalling on the day. The timing of the races went well up until lunchtime, but unfortunately, there was an error on our part where races were started earlier than scheduled, resulting in whānau missing out on seeing their child/ren run. We apologise again for the unintentional upset caused, and hope that the whānau of our Year 0-2 children will be able to join us on Tuesday 24 September for a re-run just for our Year 0-2 children. Notices will come home on Monday 16 September with more details.
School Uniform
We are noticing that some students are wearing non-uniform clothing on days where school uniform is required to be worn. This also includes inappropriate jewellery, such as large chains. A reminder that we offer the following options:
Monday: House Shirt or School Uniform
Tuesday - Thursday: School Uniform
Friday: Non-uniform clothing or School Uniform
If you have any uniform items that your child no longer fits, and you’d like to donate these to the school, please hand these into the school office.
Yellow Lines - No parking or stopping
There are broken yellow lines on the edge of the road outside our school, both on Evans Road and on Estuary Road. These broken yellow lines indicate no parking or stopping. Please help to keep our children safe by ensuring that you do not park on these lines. The yellow lines on Estuary Road allow our Road Patrol monitors to have clear view of on-coming traffic so they can safely put their signs out and cross children safely. When cars are parked on these yellow lines, their visibility is compromised and therefore makes it unsafe. Don’t be offended if our staff ask you to politely move.
Te Wiki o te reo Māori - we look forward to a week of celebrating Te Reo Māori, and look forward to the learning that comes along with it.
Ngā mihi
