Great news for those under 25! From 1 July, your students can get discounted public transport fares as part of the Government’s Budget 23. We’ve listed some of the details that might relate to your students, so you’ve got information if you need it.
Free travel for children aged 5 to 12 years
From 1 July, children aged 5 to 12 years can travel for FREE on our bus, train and ferry services.
If their date of birth for their registered HOP card falls between these ages, they are eligible for this discount.
We’ll apply this discount for them, so they don’t need to do anything.
50% off child fares for children aged 13 to 15 years
From 1 July, children aged 13 to 15 years will continue to get 50% off the previous child fares on our bus, train and ferry services. They can also travel for free on weekends and public holidays.
If their date of birth for their registered HOP card falls between these ages, they are eligible for this discount.
We’ll apply this discount for them, so they don’t need to do anything.
50% off child fares for secondary students aged 16 to 19 years
From 1 July, secondary students aged 16 to 19 years will continue to get 50% off the previous child fares on our bus, train and ferry services.
If their date of birth for their registered HOP card falls between these ages and have an existing secondary student concession, they will be eligible for this discount.
We’ll apply this discount for them, so they don’t need to do anything.
50% off adult fares for young people aged 16 to 24 (students who do not have a secondary concession)
From 1 July, young people aged 16 to 24 years can get 50% off regular adult fares on our bus, train and ferry services.
As the date of birth for your registered HOP card falls between these ages, they are eligible for this discount.
We’ll apply this discount for them, so they don’t need to do anything.

Here are some things for students to remember when traveling:
  • They will need to tag on and off with a registered HOP card.
  • Their HOP card needs to have their correct date of birth and can’t have a negative balance (needs to have a balance of $0.00 or more).
  • There are some excluded services e.g. tourist ferries (Waiheke and Rakino).
  • If the student also has a secondary concession, they will need to have their Student ID card on hand.

These classes will be held in Room 22 on Thursdays starting on 10 Aug and last session on 14 September.  
Junior class (6-8 year olds)

I am the Study Manager for a concussion research project (CRANIAC) currently being run by the University of Waikato. This study is being conducted in both the Waikato and Auckland areas.
Concussion is a common injury in childhood and adolescence but currently we do not know how long it usually takes for young people to recover from this type of injury. We want to find out how long it takes young people in NZ to recover from concussion. The information gathered will be used to develop specific concussion management guidelines for children and adolescents in NZ, as well as internationally.
We are over half way through the data collection stage but we are struggling to find children and adolescents who are both eligible and willing to participate in our study. We imagine that we may get a better uptake of participants if parents/caregivers have already heard about the study prior to their child suffering a concussion/mild TBI.

The Splash Holiday programme is a fun and safe opportunity for children aged 8-15 to improve their water safety competence and knowledge, while enhancing their swimming ability. Places are limited to 25 per day and cost $30 per child.
 
Splash is now in its 10th year, and our experienced instructors provide a friendly and inclusive environment where confidence is built, and kids are encouraged to give new aquatic activities a go!
Activities include lifejacket safety, snorkelling, bystander rescue, beach safety with safer boating and Manu safety (bombing) on offer for the older age group sessions.

My name’s Stephanie and I work for a company called Prime Research.
A bit about us:
We are a market research recruitment company based in Auckland. We undertake research projects nationwide and are often asked to find parents to take part in projects with us.  ALL participants are PAID for taking part in the research and it can take the form of online or face to face groups or interviews etc, depending on the project.  As an example; a typical project could be a one-hour focus group (in person or via Zoom) for $80.

We are often looking to speak to parents and would therefore love to be able to reach out to your school audience to see if any are interested in taking part in paid research projects.
