PRINCIPAL'S TALANOA
Saane Faaofo Oldehaver
Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
CONGRATULATIONS - I am so proud of everyone’s efforts through the winter illnesses in trying hard to soldier on and get to school on time everyday. It has definitely been hard for us all, so well done team. Thank you especially to our staff who have worked through their colds and flus, as we know how hard it is to get Relievers in the winter months.
We all get to have a much needed break now and replenish our bodies and minds then get ready for another full on term at the best school in Weymouth. Please ensure you read, write and do maths every day with your children to keep their learning on track.
LEARNING JOURNEY REPORTS - thank you to our amazing teachers for your preparation in getting these ready for our whānau to see the learning their children have been doing for the first half of the year. Please spend some time reading through these with your child and preparing any questions you may have for the Learning Conversations in Term 3, Week 2 Tuesday 25th of July. Remember you can book online an interview time slot.
SPELLATHON - congratulations to our children for learning your words and to our families for getting sponsors. We raised a staggering $5637.30. Each class has been given the amount they raised and then together with their teacher they will choose the spelling resources they will buy for their classes.
THANK YOU TO JAMES COOK HIGH SCHOOL - for our invitation to celebrate Matariki and learn all about Puutake. Our five classes that attended enjoyed the learning and especially loved seeing the kapa haka roopu perform. We were inspired by the singing and performing and sharing of kai. We look forward to many more opportunities for our school and students going forward.
MATARIKI MARKET DAY - Wow! What a wonderful day celebrating. To our Senior Kapa Haka Team and, our Moana and Te Awa Kapa Haka Team, a huge thank you for your performances to open our day. To our amazing students and teachers for working hard to create a product to share with your whānau. We have some talented inventors at WPS.
JUNKY MONKEYS - a huge thank you to Whaea Deirdre for organising this incredible play with junk. Our children had so much fun exploring, communicating, problem solving and writing about it. It is amazing how we can use things people would throw away and turn it into play.
On behalf of all of our staff at WPS, we wish you a safe holiday. Please remember to keep up the learning and we look forward to seeing you all back on MONDAY 17th OF JULY AT 8.30am ready for learning at 8.50am. Powhiri is at 10.30am and we would love you to join us to welcome our new children, families and staff to WPS.
