DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S TALANOA
Moana Iese
Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
Whaea Saane has been very busy over the last couple of weeks, meeting with very important people in the Ministry, and representing our students, our school, our whānau, and our community. We are so proud of Whaea Saane and the mahi she does in that space in order to improve education not only for us but for others across Aotearoa.
Bike and Scooter Safety - It is great to see so many students coming to school riding their wheels! Whānau, please talk to your child/ren about being safe, wearing a helmet, crossing the roads safely and in safe places, and being respectful of pedestrians who are sharing the footpath.
Assessments - Most of our Year 4 to Year 6 students have had Progressive Achievement Tests (PATs) this week in Reading Comprehension and Mathematics. These assessments provide teachers with information about the skills and understandings students have in these areas. As we approach the end of the term, teachers will be carrying out other assessments to plan the next steps for learning in Term 2.
Learning Conversations - A huge THANK YOU to whānau who attended our Learning Conversations this week. This was an opportunity to talanoa and discuss how your child/ren are getting on at school, to share some learning goals, and discuss ways that we can work together to support your child/ren. We had 78% of fabulous whānau who made appointments, with 63% attending their Learning Conversation. The terrible weather possibly had a lot to do with some being unable to attend, however, we encourage you to still make contact with the class teacher to reschedule another appointment at a time that suits you both. This was the first time we opened online booking of appointments through our HERO app. All those that booked using their Hero App went into a draw to win a prize. Congratulations to the following students and their whānau who won a $30 Pak'n'Save Voucher each: Rm 14 Tony Fainu Tekeu; Rm 12 Lamatagi Tatolu; Rm 1 Mali Sin; Rm 19 Ayva-Quest Cooley; Rm 9 Hunter McCutchan-Ngatai. For support with the HERO app, please see the school office.
Haerenga ki Manurewa Marae - Our Year 6 classes, teachers, and supporting staff members visited Manurewa Marae on Wednesday 22 March. This learning experience enabled our staff and students to connect with one of our local marae, its tangata whenua, and to hear the stories of Manurewa Marae and our community. Thank you to Manurewa Marae for your aroha and manaakitanga.
End of Term - The next school newsletter will be shared on the last day of school: Thursday 6 April. A reminder that we will be finishing at 2pm on this day.
