It is hard to believe we are at the end of another amazing year @ WPS. What a fun filled year it has been and we ended on a phenomenal note with our celebration of learning day last Friday. We got to see all our children performing on the big stage. I was so proud of how hard all our classes had worked and how the children had so much fun performing for their families and friends. We rock WPS.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Next week on Tuesday 16th of December, you will receive your child’s final report for the year as well as a letter from their teacher for 2026. All children will spend 2 hours meeting their new teacher and getting to know them. There will also be a final letter from me with some guidelines and expectations for 2026.
CONGRATULATIONS - to the following students (Zavanah Ataata, Aanika Aubrey-Wihongi, Olivia Kohunui, Leone Mills, Tiare Petero, Leilani McShane, Ezekiel Wilson, Evanna Heremaia, Hercules Letele, Kuulei McShane, Jael Puruto, Trace Tepania, Jaxus Thomson and Kaya Tumai-Totorewa-Tavui who were the writers and illustrators working alongside David Rile to create a book called Te Puna Kōrero o Manurewa.
In this book, the writers share what they’ve learned about the names, and the stories behind them, and the personal connections they have to them. It is hoped that by learning and speaking these names as a school we can learn about the stories behind them. We want all our children to know the names and stories and to understand the history they carry, and feel a shared sense of care for our land, and for one another. A huge thank you to David Riley for organising this wonderful taonga that we will treasure and share with our students for years to come.
YEAR 6’s ARE LEAVING - once again we farewell another amazing group of students who are off on their next learning journey at intermediate. We want to thank you for being a part of our community and we wish you all the successes you deserve as you embark on your next learning journey in life. Remember our vision, values and Weymouth Way as you head off. As our Year 6 students head off we have gifted them with a book that they wrote alongside David Riley about their champions. I have had a sneak preview and it brought tears to my eyes reading about their champions in their lives. Our students will also receive a leavers shirt and a pounamu. These treasures they will take with them to remember their time here at WPS.
START DATE FOR 2026 - Next year we will start on Monday 9th of February for our students. Our teachers will be back on 27 January to 5th of February for preparation for the year. We will upload a yearly calendar so you can lock in dates on your diaries.
THANK YOU - Thank you to all our children for a fabulous year. Thank you to all our teachers for an amazing year of teaching & learning. Thank you to all our families for your amazing support. Thank you to all our amazing support staff. Finally, thank you to our board of trustees for your guidance and support throughout the year.
Wishing you all a very Merry Xmas and wonderful and relaxing new year. Please watch out for my final letter coming out with lots of ideas to support at home over the long break.
