Acting Principal's Talanoa
Moana Iese
Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
KIA ORA FROM TIMARU: My Principal’s Talanoa comes from much further south than Manurewa, much further south than Wellington, and a little further south from Christchurch… Kia ora from Timaru! On Wednesday evening, Whaea Danielle, Mrs Miers, Mrs Johnson and I flew to Christchurch then drove two hours to Timaru to attend a Relationships-First Wānaka - a conference attended by schools across New Zealand that share the same pedagogy. Mrs Miers and I were very privileged to be asked to present a workshop on our school’s journey with the Relationships-First kaupapa, and in particular how we are sustaining this in our school. We got to hear the impact stories from schools in South Canterbury and their implementation of Relationships-First. We were fortunate to be able to listen to Emeritus Russell Bishop, and other experts that champion his research, and look forward to bringing back ideas to strengthen what we currently do at Weymouth Primary School.
Ngā mihi nui to Bec Kaukau, our relieving Principal over the last two days, for supporting our teachers and students while our leadership team is away - it was very much appreciated.
ROTOROA ISLAND: On Tuesday 19 November the Year 6 students from the Rangi Team and their teachers visited Rotoroa Island, an endangered bird sanctuary and conservation park one hour from Auckland by ferry in the Hauraki Gulf. Our children were privileged to walk and explore this amazing island where educators supported them to experience island wildlife and conservation. Thank you to Whaea Deirdre for overseeing the organisation of this amazing opportunity for our students, to our teachers for supporting this event, and to the whānau who came to help supervise. We appreciate you all and thank you for making this happen.
PAINTERS CLUB WITH CELENE MILLER: We have been very fortunate to have the expertise of Celene Miller to come and work with some of our Maunga Team children (Year 4/5) and teach them some new painting techniques and skills that they can apply to their artwork. Check out some of their masterpieces!
ATHLETICS DAY!!: On Friday 29 November, Weymouth Primary School will be holding an Athletics Day.
Our Juniors (Moana, Te Awa and Papa Teams) will be participating in athletic-type activities based at school between 9.30-12.30pm.
Our Seniors (Maunga and Rangi Teams) will be participating in Athletic events at Jellicoe Park, Manurewa. We will be transporting our children to and from the park by bus, leaving at 9am and returning by 3pm.
Whānau are welcome to come along!
