WEYMOUTH WAY - This term we are focusing on ‘We Care’ as part of our Weymouth Way. We would love it if you could chat with your children about all the things they can do to show ‘caring’ towards others at our school. 

DOUBLE PARKING - thank you to all those who are supporting our drop-off and pick-up zone. A friendly reminder please, do not double park before the zone, as parents find it hard to see when they come around the corner, due to all the cars that are double parked. It would be good to come a bit later e.g. 3.05pm as by then most of the cars are gone. We appreciate your support in helping us to keep our children safe. 

CM GAMES - next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 7, 8 and 9th of November, we are taking 71 students from the Maunga and Rangi teams, to participate against other schools from all over Manukau in different sports. We have entered in: basketball, soccer, netball, volleyball, Tag and Touch. Parents and caregivers are welcome to come along and support at Bruce Pulman Park in Takanini. 

TESTING - our teachers are doing our final lot of tests for 2023 as they begin to gather their assessment and evaluation information for the end of year Reports. It is always great to see how much progress our children are making in a year. 

DIWALI - next week we celebrate Diwali as a whole school. On Thursday all our students and teachers can come in traditional wear to celebrate. 

CLASS PHOTOS - next Friday (10 November), we will be having class and individual photos. If you want a sibling photo taken please fill out the reverse side of the notice sent home and return to school. This applies only to siblings who attend Weymouth Primary School. Please make sure your child comes in school uniform and not mufti. Thanks for your support.

VOICE COLLECTION - over the next few weeks we are gathering the voice of our students and families as we begin to prepare for 2024. Please take some time to fill in the Survey as we value your contributions. We were delighted at the voices we collected so far and feel proud of all we are doing as a school to develop great citizens for the future.

A sanctuary and home for birds and wildlife who have lost theirs.

Hello! Kia ora, kia orana, and malo e lelei. This article relates to the significant events of November 1st for our Eco-Warriors. This article will revolve around the island of Tiritiri Matangi, a next-to isolated island in the Hauraki Gulf. This is where our Eco Warriors went on Wednesday.

November 1st, 2023

Today was the most spectacular and unique day of my life. And I am about to tell you all about it!

We went on a ferry to an island called Tiritiri Matangi. I did not know much about this place until yesterday. The ferry ride was cool! It looked fancy, and we got to choose where we sat. Most of us only left our bags on our seats, and then, we had a competition on who could stand the straightest in the strong wind. For a second, I was winning! But every time I walk, it pushed me back.

After another hour, we made it to the island. We had a short pep talk and then we were sorted into groups to walk around. Our group was, by far, the shortest. Even counting the adults. We had 6 counting them. Me, Thisanth, Rourke, and Azriel. And also Whaea Deirdre and a guide from the island.

Moving on. We were given a checklist on birds, and instructed to carefully look out for any. We also learnt some new ways to catch a photo of them.

Most of us, and I bet even you already know these drills. So that wasn't something new we learnt. But it was sure something we absolutely mastered that day. All of us wanted to see the wildlife and plants here because Whaea Deirdre told us that some of these plants and wildlife are only able to be seen here, and are not seen in the mainland of New Zealand. We ran across a few Weta Hotels and other animal shelters scattered around in the lush, green terrain. Mostly, they were all empty.

We saw most of the birds there that day, however. But there were 2 that we did not; The Kereru and The Ruru. But soon after lunch, we were told that there was a second Ruru somewhere, so we all followed our tour guide and saw the Ruru in the end. But sadly, we never ended up seeing the kereru during our visit there.
When we departed on the ferry, nothing new happened other than the fact that we were sitting somewhere else. And to end this magnificent day, we stood in the wind, waving our goodbyes.
